Zawada Family History
Post-war; a new generation is born
In 1959, Joe's mother Victoria passed away. I do not know yet how she
died, but she was 80 years old.
Frank Sr. and Victoria are both buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in
Southfield, Michigan.
Holy Sepulchre Cemetery was dedicated in 1928, owned and operated by
the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit.
Joe and Isabel Wades lived in Livonia, Michigan until Joe's death from
heart attack in 1967.
Joe was at home in his kitchen one day, when suddenly the heart
attack hit. He quickly scrawled down instructions to Isabel on where
she could find the storm windows for the coming winter, and then he
collapsed under the kitchen table and died. He'd been retired for
less than 2 years if I remember correctly. Joe was 70 years old.
Within a few years of Joe's death, Isabel moved to Tucson, Arizona, where
she lived in a trailer from the late 1970's until she broke her hip in 1981.
Isabel kept requiring hospitalization, so her sons brought her back to
Michigan. By the early 1980's she was committed,
reluctantly, to a series of nursing homes. She passed away in a nursing
home in February, 1987.
Joe is buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, where his parents are buried.
Isabel is buried next to her parents in Grand Lawn Cemetery in Detroit,
Michigan.
Eight years after Joe died, his little brother Ray died - also of heart
attack.
Ray was in his last week of work before retirement from Chrysler, where
he was a buyer. He'd purchased a motel in Indian River, near Petoskey,
Michigan, to enjoy with his wife Marge in their retirement.
Ray was at work when he was seized by heart attack, and according to
his nephew Gerald Wades, "was dead before he hit the floor".
Ray was 60 years old when he died.
It is interesting to note that Gerald Wades also suffers from heart
problems, and spent a week in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary's
Hospital in Livonia, Michigan back in 1987. He was 45 years old when he
was diagnosed with Angina Pectoris. Gerald has been on heart medication
ever since.
It appears that people of Polish descent are at risk for cardiovascular
disease and heart attack.
