Frank Zawada Jr., with his youngest brother Ray and their

Frank Jr. and his wife Marie raised three children; Helen, Barbara and Donald.
Helen had been the only child who was born in Calumet before the family moved downstate.
After the end of WWI, Frank received an Honorable Discharge from the
United States Army certifying that "Frank A. Zawada, 1138391, Private,
55th Balloon Company Air Service (Aero).
Honorable discharge by reason of Authority from letter Secy of War to the
Director of Military Aero dated Nov. 24, 1918. When enlisted he was 22
8/12 years of age and by occupation a blacksmith. He had blue eyes, light
hair, fair complexion and was 5 feet 6 1/2 inches in height. Given under my
hand at Air Service Depot, Morrison, Va. this 24th day of December, one
thousand nine hundred and eighteen."
On August 23, 1918, Frank had married Marie Judnich, daughter of John and Mary
(Girdisich) Judnich. They were married at St. Joseph's Church in Calumet
(now known as St. Paul's).
